CORONAVIRUS Public worship in all churches is suspended. For this week's news and suggestions of how to pray at home, see the pew sheet to the right (Select web version if you are viewing on a phone).
FUNERALS Although church buildings are closed, the Church of England is still conducting funerals. You do not have to go to church to have the C of E conduct a funeral: we are available to all those in Horden, or those with a connection to the village. A minister will take the service at the crematorium or graveside, and then after lockdown we will offer a Memorial Service in St Mary's Church with more friends and family, music and eulogies, for no extra fee. Please ask the funeral director to contact Fr McNeil in the usual way to arrange a funeral.
LOCKDOWN SUPPORT If you live in Horden and are in need of support of any kind (whether a chat, advice, some shopping) the Church is here to help. Please call 586 0606.
Welcome to the website of St Mary's, the Church of England parish church for Horden. St Mary's exists to serve the community of this former mining village on the Durham coast. We worship in the Catholic tradition.
There is always something going on at St Mary's. With Mass celebrated seven days a week, regular Morning and Evening Prayer, an active Sunday School (see Services) and frequent social events (see What's On), we welcome everyone to join our church family.
We also host many baptisms, weddings and funerals at St Mary's. To book a Baptism or Wedding, or to arrange for Banns of Marriage to be called, please visit the church on any Wednesday evening from 6pm to 6.30pm.
Every day people come to St Mary's to meet with God in the hallowed space of our beautiful church. When they gather here they are strengthened in spirit and faith through receiving the sacraments and hearing God's word. We encourage everyone to come and learn of the joys of living life daily with Christ within a lively Christian family.
